Kari Vicars, Principal, SSHS

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back to Shady Spring High School for the 2024-2025 school year. I hope that you had a restful summer and you are ready for a great year! We look forward to a year of continued academic achievement and growth.

I am entering my 19th year in education, and my 2nd year as principal at Shady Spring High School. Throughout my career I have served as a teacher, both on the middle and high school levels, and I was the Principal of Summers County High School for 5 1/2 years before accepting a Coordinator position at the West Virginia Department of Education. I always felt like my heart was with the students, however, and that is what led me to Shady Spring High School. Although I am not a Shady native, I have been welcomed into the Tiger family with open arms. I feel the sense of community and pride and I am committed to upholding the high standards that have become synonymous with Shady Spring HIgh School.

It is my sincere hope that you are able to take advantage of every opportunity available to you here at SSHS.   You have the opportunity to make lasting friendships, explore new opportunities, accomplish great things in academics and athletics, extra-curriculars, and achieve your personal goals. We encourage all students to try new courses, challenge themselves through a rigorous schedule, join a music, drama, or sports program, and to start making memories.

I want you to know that I take great pride in being the principal of Shady Spring High School, and my main goal is to see my students happy and successful. I believe that we have a school full of future doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, welders, carpenters, police officers, and many other professions that are going to make a huge difference in this world. It is my privilege to get to lead some of the best and brightest minds in the state of WV.

Please let me know if I can do anything to help you along the way. I am looking forward to a great year, and as always, it’s a great time to be a Tiger!

Sincerely,

Kari Vicars,

Principal, SSHS
